Joe Kitchen

After 16 years in the big corporate rat race, I had to make a decision to either find another job driving a desk, or do something entirely different. Sure 5 day work weeks, paid vacations, and 401K plans were nice, but I decided to go in another direction entirely. So I took a suggestion from my father in law and used my severance package to open Once Ridden Bikes in October of 2003. I still miss the 401K, but I’ve grown fond of Ramen noodles and lime Kool-Aid and I’m glad I did.

Jim Kitchen

Jim (my dad) has worked at the shop from the beginning and has evolved into our “wheel man” with particular expertise in truing (straightening) wheels, replacing bent axles, and solving bearing and spacing issues on troublesome wheels. Don’t let his sometimes gruff exterior fool you, he’s just trying to yank your chain a little… He enjoys it.

Roger Atkins

Roger has been an avid cyclist for 30 years. He was a “regular” at the bike shop for years getting parts and talking shop. He was spending so much time with us that in ’06 I decided that as long as he was hanging around I might as well put him to work. He’s been with us ever since. He’s very knowledgeable and has been a great asset to us. He’ll be the guy in the yellow “Livestrong” hat.

Adam Tanner

Adam is a recent addition to our workforce and is already proving to be invaluable. For years he bought and sold his own bikes on Ebay and Craig’s list, and he’s also worked at some local shops. He’s a top notch mechanic, and although we’ve been trying we haven’t been able to challenge him with anything that he hasn’t seen before… but we’re still trying.

Chris Doty

Chris is relatively new to the cycling business, but he’s a fast learner. Sometimes we still have to remind him to take the nut out of the crank before applying the crank puller, but since we’re making him pay for the new crank pullers… he’s going to get it pretty soon. He’ll be the guy wearing the headset and not so quietly singing along to some kind of thrash metal. He’s also our resident comic relief.
